Engineering Technology

Welcome to the home of ESET at St. Lawrence College Kingston, Ontario, Canada

ESET is a Technician / Technologist diploma from St. Lawrence College Kingston.

With the primary focus being on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, students study all aspects of energy and physical science. Topics of study include Natural Gas and Propane heating, Power Electronics and Distribution, Solar Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal, Wind Energy, Geothermal, Instrumentation and Control, among others. For a full description, read About the Program.

Along with the studying we also get involved in a lot of hands on projects and student events. Student enthusiasm for the technology leads inevitably to extracurricular learning opportunities. Some of the projects include the Solar Cooling Project, The Solar Car Team, and The Insulation Demonstration Building.

The Students of ESET are also represented by the Energy Systems Student Association (ESSA) and The Campus Sustainability Initiative (CSI). These two groups have slightly different mandates but much of the same members. The ESSA’s mission is to enrich and  facilitate life for ESET Students by holding events and field trips, as well as raising funds for other projects. The CSI on the other hand is focused on bringing SLC to a more sustainable place. This includes issues of operations (waste, energy consumption, etc.) as well as issues of social and environmental justice. As representatives, ESSA and CSI  coordinate with the Student Association and other groups (Students in Free Enterprise SIFE, Information Systems Student’s Council ISSC) as well as provincial and national levels of the Sierra Youth Coalition.
